Organic Waste Recycling

In unincorporated western Placer County, we remain committed to making recycling and disposal easy for our residents – this goes for organic wastes, too! Many organic wastes are already being recovered for recycling, and planned WPWMA renovations will increase recyclable recovery – including food waste – so you may continue to place food waste in your trash bin. There are no changes to collection methods for other types of organic waste. Existing residential green waste collection will continue in more urban areas. Recycling and Disposing of Used Motor Oil

Did you know that used motor oil never wears out? It gets dirty, but it can be recycled, cleaned and used again. Recycling used motor oil is good for the environment and conserves resources.

 

Don’t pour motor oil on the ground or into storm drains, and never put it in your One Big Bin, even in a sealed container! Motor oil can contaminate and pollute soil, groundwater, creeks, ponds and rivers — and it’s very harmful to pets and wildlife.

 

Improperly disposing of used motor oil is also illegal.

 

Recycling your used motor oil reduces pollution and keeps our waterways clean and our wildlife and pets safe. When you call for a pickup appointment for your used motor oil, you are conserving a valuable resource and protecting the environment. That’s a winning combination!

How to Recycle Used Motor Oil in Placer County

Recycling your used motor oil is easy! You can call to schedule a free curbside pickup, if that service is available in your area [insert link to chart?], or you can drop it at the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) or at a certified collection center.

You can take your oil to the MRF or review our list of dropoff locations to see where you may drop your oil off in Placer County — or you can have your oil changed at a service station that recycles the oil for you.

Businesses that generate small amounts of used oil have the same options as the general public. Certified collection centers (CCCs) may set a maximum daily limit of 5 gallons of used oil per person per day. If the CCC has the tank capacity, they may set a daily limit up to 55 gallons per person per day. If you have large amounts of used oil, it’s a good idea to call a CCC in advance. If you regularly have larger amounts, your business may qualify to register as an industrial generator; if so, you will need to have your used oil picked up by a certified hauler.

Growers and Ranchers

Growers and ranchers have the same options as other businesses and the general public. They may also drop off (at no charge) up to 55 gallons of used oil at specific participating collection centers.
