Household Hazardous Waste Disposal

Daily 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Placer County residents may drop off household hazardous waste (HHW) at no cost. Consistent with the Department of Transportation limitations and the WPWMA’s current operating permits, the WPWMA will not accept more than 15 gallons, or 125 pounds of hazardous waste per drop off from residents.

If your business generates no more than 220 lbs (100 kg) of hazardous waste per month, you may qualify as a Very Small Quantity Generator (VSQG). For a fee, VSQGs may drop off materials at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF). For more information about the requirements for a VSQG, visit The US EPA Summary of Requirements for Very Small Quantity Generators (VSQGs) or email us at info@wpwma.ca.gov.

Your waste hauler may also pick up limited Hazardous Household Waste and electronics for free at your door! Visit our THEY COLLECT page for more information or to schedule a pickup appointment for your address.

What about Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) and electronic waste?

HHW, e-waste, and separated recyclables are free for residents to drop off at the WPWMA every day. For commercial customers, there are fees for very small quantity generators (VSQG) of hazardous wastes. Find the fees for businesses and more information here.

How Are Waste Disposal Fees Calculated?

*Most residential and commercial customers, including those with non-dumping trailers, are charged by the cubic yard by measuring the total size of materials at the public scale houses. Larger commercial customers and customers with dumping trailers or dump trucks are weighed and charged by the ton at the commercial scale houses.

What forms of payment are accepted?

The WPWMA accepts cash, checks, Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and digital pay options (Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Samsung Pay). We do not accept American Express. Customers must pay for each load at the time of disposal. Our staff is unable to accept payment over the phone.
