Medication Disposal in Western Placer County

Proper Prescription Medicine Disposal

Never throw unused medicines or prescription medication in your garbage, and never flush it down the toilet. Tossing medication into your One Big Bin or down the drain puts these drugs into our water supply and landfills, where they are a hazard to people, pets and wildlife.

The proper way to dispose of your old, expired or unused medication is to take it to a pharmacy that offers a collection bin for this purpose. Find  participating pharmacies here.

Periodic takeback events for proper disposal are also hosted by several local Police Departments and other law enforcement agencies.

Placer County residents can drop off medication at the Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) free of charge, daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Find our location and hours here.
