Interested in turning your ideas into innovative solutions? We’re looking for innovators, entrepreneurs, and startups that will transform waste into a valuable resource. Enter our fourth annual competition where the winners receive $20,000 and an opportunity to take part in a pilot project alongside the WPWMA, turning your idea or startup into reality.

The WPWMA is shifting the historical dynamic of linear solid waste management – take, make, and dispose of – to a new model of circular resource management, where old products become new products in perpetuity. In short, we are searching for real value in the waste stream of Placer County, and we’re collaborating with partners to expedite that commitment.

Pinapalakas ng WPWMA ang Circular Economy Innovation Competition, managed by the Carlsen Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at Sacramento State, for its fourth year. The competition invites innovators, researchers, and entrepreneurs to turn materials that would otherwise end up in the landfill, into repurposed value. We are seeking innovations that utilize recoverable waste products and allow WPWMA to:

    • I-maximize ang pagbawi ng mga materyales, pag-iwas sa mga pagtaas sa mga pagtatapon ng landfill
    • Pagbawas ng mga gastos (transportasyon, paggamit ng enerhiya, atbp.)
    • Pagpapahusay ng mga kita
    • Paglikha ng pagkakapare-pareho (pagbaba ng pagkasumpungin ng mga internasyonal na merkado)
Want to learn more? Join the WPWMA & the Carlsen Center for an Information Session on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 at 12 p.m./noon to learn more about the competition and get your questions answered.
Finalists will have the opportunity to “pitch” their ideas/innovations, receive mentorship to bring their visions to life, and compete for a $20,000 cash prize.
